Manage Agents

To view and manage your on-premises Active Directory resources in Elements, you need to install and configure AvePoint Hybrid Agent Management to your local domain devices.

*Note: For the management of hybrid Active Directory resources, you must download and install AvePoint Hybrid Agent Management on the device that has Microsoft Entra ID Connect.

To remove an agent that is in the Inactive or Not installed status, select the agent and click Remove.

For an agent that is Active, you can select it and click Collect logs to collect logs on the agent. When the logs are collected, click the download (Button: download) button to the right of the agent row to download the collected logs. You can also click Refresh to view the latest agents and their statuses.

To complete the installation and configuration, refer to the following sections for instructions.

Register an API App

To register an API app for hybrid management, complete the following steps:

  1. Navigate to Settings > API app registration under the Additional section.

  2. Switch to the Hybrid management tab.

  3. Click Create app registration for a customer, enter a name for the app, select the customer for whom you want to create the app registration, and click Continue.

  4. Click Upload certificate to upload a certificate (.cer file). The certificate serves as credentials that allow your application to authenticate itself, requiring no interaction from a user at runtime. You can refer to the Use IIS Manager to Prepare Certificates section under Prepare a Certificate to prepare a CER certificate.

    *Note: Make sure the certificate uploaded to the app is exported from the local device where the agent will be installed.

  5. Click Save to save your configurations.

  6. When you finish the registration, click the app name and you can copy the service value from the Certificates tab of the App registration details page.

Install Hybrid Agent Management

To install Hybrid Agent Management, complete the following steps:

  1. Navigate to Settings > Agent management under the Hybrid management section.

  2. On the Agent management page, click Download agent package to download the agent package to your local device.

  3. Find the downloaded ZIP file and extract it.

  4. Run the Setup.exe file as administrator.

  5. In the Hybrid Agent Management setup wizard, select a destination folder to install Hybrid Agent Management, and click Next.

  6. After the requirement rules have been checked, click Install.

  7. Click Finish when the installation finishes to exit the wizard.

Configure Hybrid Agent Management

To connect the Hybrid Agent Management to Elements, complete the following steps:

  1. In the local device that has Hybrid Agent Management installed, find the Hybrid Agent Configuration from the Start menu or in the folder where you installed Hybrid Agent Management.

  2. Run Hybrid Agent Configuration.

  3. In the Connect to AOS step, complete the following settings:

    • Select the AvePoint Online Services environment – Select the AvePoint Online Services environment that your tenant is in.

    • Data center – Select the data center that you registered in.

    • Microsoft 365 tenant ID – Enter your Microsoft 365 tenant ID.

    • AvePoint Online Services application (client) ID – Enter the app registration client ID.

    • Certificate thumbprint – Enter the service value you copied from the Certificates tab of the App registration details page

  4. Click Next.

  5. In Domain settings, enter the domain and provide the account information of a domain admin for authentication.

  6. Click Next.

  7. Configure whether to automatically update the service.

  8. Click Submit to save your settings and exit the configuration wizard.
