Export to PDFTo connect Fly to your source and destination, you need to add connections in Fly before the migration.
To connect Fly to your source or destination SharePoint for SharePoint to SharePoint Migration, add SharePoint connections by completing the following steps.
Refer to the following steps to add SharePoint Online connections:
Click Settings in the left pane, and select Connections to access the Connections page.
Click Create connection. The Create connection panel appears.
In the Create connection panel, complete the following settings:
Connection name – Enter a name for the connection.
Connection type – Select SharePoint Online from the drop-down list to create a connection for SharePoint Online.
Tenant – Select a tenant from/to which you want to migrate SharePoint Online objects. You can enter the keyword of a tenant in the Search tenant text box and click the Search (
) button to search the tenant.
If your desired tenant cannot be found from the drop-down list, you need to connect to the tenant in AvePoint Online Services Tenant management. Refer to for details. Then, click the Refresh (
) button to reload the tenant.
Container for auto map – Select a container of the tenant selected above if you want to automatically set up your mappings. You can enter the keyword of a container in the Search container text box and click the Search (
) button to search the container. Make sure at least one scan job has been run in AvePoint Online Services and there are objects in the container. If the container still cannot be found in the drop-down list, you can set up a scan profile in AvePoint Online Services to use Auto Discovery to find the objects you want to migrate. Refer to for details. Then, click the Refresh (
) button to reload the container.
*Note: If the connection is used for the destination, you do not need to configure a container here. During the auto map process, Fly can automatically add the destination site collection URLs using the source site collection information and the destination domain.
SharePoint admin center URL – Enter the SharePoint admin center URL to retrieve and create site collections. If your SharePoint admin center URL is a customized URL, enter the customized URL. If your tenant is a multi-geo tenant, enter the SharePoint admin center URL of the location where you want to migrate data from/to.
Credentials – Refer to the following instructions to configure credentials.
App profile – Select an app profile from the drop-down list to use the app profile authentication method to add the connection. You can enter the keyword of an app profile in the Search app profile text box and click the Search (
) button to search the app profile.
Service account authentication – Fly provides the following two authentication methods:
Legacy authentication – Select one or multiple service accounts from the drop-down list.
*Note: This method does not support service accounts with multi-factor authentication (MFA) enabled.
Modern authentication – If the account has MFA enabled, you can use modern authentication method and select one or multiple delegated app profiles from the drop-down list to add the connection. You can enter the keyword of a delegated app profile in the Search delegated app profile text box and click the Search (
) button to search the delegated app profile.
*Note: To reduce throttling during migration jobs, we recommend you select multiple delegated app profiles for a connection.
App profile for Power Platform – If you want to copy or merge Power Apps for lists in Aviator for SharePoint Online, you also need to select an app profile for Power Platform from the drop-down list. You can enter the keyword of an app profile in the Search app profile for Power Platform text box and click the Search (
) button to search the delegated app profile.
You can also create a new (delegated) app profile or service account in AvePoint Online Services. Remember to click the Refresh (
) button to reload the (delegated) app profile or service account after the creation.
*Note: To reduce throttling during migration, we recommend you use the app profile for the migration. However, some objects are not supported with app profile authentication. To ensure a complete migration, you can use a service account alongside the app profile for unsupported objects.
*Note: The service account pool is no longer available in new connections. If you change the option from Yes to No from previous connections, the service account pool section will be hidden when you edit the connection next time. If you want to continue using the service account pool to run the migration jobs to be less throttled, you can select multiple service accounts.
*Note: If the destination tenant is a multi-geo tenant and new site collections will be created in the destination during the migrations, refer to Migration to a Destination Multi-Geo Tenant to view in which location the new site collections will be created.
