User Management

User management provides a centralized interface for adding and managing security groups. You can now add users and groups to security groups and customize each security group's specific permissions, streamlining how you organize users and control access through group-based policies.

Admins and View only group is the built-in permission groups in Fly. You cannot remove the groups or update their permissions.

NOTE

Membership in the Admins security group is automatically synchronized. Fly adds users and groups when they are assigned as service administrators or application administrators, and removes them when they are demoted to a standard user role. They cannot be manually added to or removed from this group.

Manage Security Groups

To manage user permissions more efficiently, you can create a security group for a set of users and configure group permissions. The users within this group will have the permission when the group is granted.

  1. Navigate to Settings > User management page, click Create security group in the left navigation pane.

  2. In step 1. General information, complete the following configurations:

    • Group name – Enter the name of the group.

    • What modules does this group have access to? – Select the modules that the security group has access to.

  3. Once completed, click Next.

  4. In step 2. Tenant mapping, click Add mapping and select the required source tenant and destination tenant to configure source-to-destination mappings to manage the information flow between tenants. You can add multiple source tenants or destination tenants for a mapping. You can also click Add mapping to add more mappings. To delete a mapping, click Delete.

Note that the mappings are applied to both Migration and Aviator.

  5. Once completed, click Next.

  6. In step 3. Migration workloads, enable the toggle to specify which workloads members of this group are permitted to migrate.

For container-supported workloads, click the edit button next to a record in the Container section to select specific containers and narrow the migration scope. If no container is specified, all containers will be loaded during workload connection creation.

  7. Once completed, click Next.

  8. In step 4. Aviator workloads, enable the toggle to specify which workloads members of this group are permitted to manage in Aviator. If migration is also enabled for this security group, you can select the checkbox to automatically apply the same workloads selected for migration.

  9. In step 5. Permissions, configure user permissions by turning on the toggles for the required modules. Use the Default access level for all toggle to apply the same permissions to every section simultaneously.

  10. Once completed, click Next.

  11. In step 6. Members, add users or Microsoft 365 groups by searching. To delete a user/group, click the delete button next to the required user/group.

  12. Click Save to save your configurations or click Cancel to close the window without saving.

The security groups you created will be listed in the Security groups section on the left navigation pane of the User management page. Click the Action button next to the security group to view available actions for the security group.

    • View permissions – Click this option to view permission details of the security group.

    • Edit – Click this option to edit the security group.

    • Delete – Click this option to delete this security group.

Add users

To add new users, complete the following steps:

  1. On Settings > User management page, click Add new user.

  2. In the Add new user panel, add users or Microsoft 365 groups by searching, or by entering a comma-separated list for bulk addition.

  3. In the Security group section, select the security group to which you want to add the user. Note that A user or group can only be directly assigned to one type of security group (Admin, View only, or Custom). However, a user can gain access to different types indirectly by being a member of multiple Microsoft 365 groups, each of which is assigned to a different security group.

  4. Once completed, click Save.
