Export to PDFTo connect Fly to your source and destination Microsoft 365 tenants to migrate Teams chats, you need to add Microsoft Teams Chat connections in Fly before the migration.
Refer to the following steps to add Microsoft Teams Chat connections:
Click Settings in the left pane, and select Connections to access the Connections page.
Click Create connection. The Create connection panel appears.
In the Create connection panel, complete the following settings:
Connection name – Enter a name for the connection.
Connection type – Select Microsoft Teams Chat from the drop-down list to create a connection for Microsoft Teams Chat.
Configure source or destination connection – Select Source or Destination to define if the connection is used as the source or destination.
Tenant – Select a tenant from/to which you want to migrate Teams chats. You can enter the keyword of a tenant in the Search tenant text box and press Enter on the keyboard to search the tenant.
If your desired tenant cannot be found from the drop-down list, you need to connect to the tenant in AvePoint Online Services Tenant management. Refer to for details. Then click the Refresh (
) button to reload the tenant.
Container for auto map – Select a container of the tenant selected above if you want to automatically set up your mappings. You can enter the keyword of a container in the Search container text box and press Enter on the keyboard to search the container. Make sure at least one scan job has been run in AvePoint Online Services, and there are objects in the container. If the container still cannot be found in the drop-down list, you can set up a scan profile in AvePoint Online Services to use Auto Discovery to find the objects you want to migrate. Refer to for details. Then, click the Refresh (
) button to reload the tenant.
SharePoint admin center URL – If the connection is used as the destination, enter the SharePoint admin center URL of the destination tenant to connect to the OneDrive sites of destination chat users.
*Note: If the destination is a multi-geo tenant, enter the SharePoint admin center URL of the location where you want to connect to the OneDrive sites of destination chat users. Additionally, make sure the OneDrive sites have been initialized before the migration.
Credentials – Configure credentials to connect to the source or destination with the credentials.
*Note: If you select to create a new app profile/delegated app profile in AvePoint Online Services, after you create the account, click the Refresh (
) button to reload the app profile or delegated app profile.
If the connection is used as the source, select an app profile from the drop-down list. You can enter the keyword of an app profile in the Search app profile text box and press Enter on the keyboard to search the app profile. (The app profile can be a Fly default app profile or a custom app profile, which is previously created in AvePoint Online Services.)
If the connection is used as the destination, configure the following credentials:
Microsoft delegated app profile – Select a previously-created delegated app profile from the drop-down lists, or click the Create new in AvePoint Online Services link to create a new one. You can enter the keyword of a delegated app profile in the Search delegated app profile text box and press Enter on the keyboard to search the app profile.
Placeholder account – Enter the email address of a destination active account that you want to use as a placeholder account. (The placeholder account does not need to have any admin center access or Microsoft 365 license.)
Source chats will be migrated as group chats in the destination. The placeholder account is required to create a group chat in the destination.
*Note: The placeholder account cannot be the same as the consent user of the destination delegated app profile or a destination chat user in the migration. Additionally, the placeholder account of Microsoft Education tenants must have a OneDrive site enabled.
*Note: The consent user of the delegated app profile and the placeholder account will be added as chat members to the destination chats.
App profile – The app profile can also be used in the following situations:
If you want to migrate chat files in Microsoft Teams Chat migrations, we recommend you also provide an app profile to reduce throttling. You can enter the keyword of an app profile in the Search app profile text box and press Enter on the keyboard to search the app profile. (The app profile can be a Fly default app profile or a custom app profile, which is previously created in AvePoint Online Services.)
If the consent user is removed from a destination chat after a migration job, the app profile can ensure that the consent user is automatically added as a chat member to that chat in the next migration job.
Click Save to save your configurations.
On the Connections page, you can manage the existing connections.
