Pre-Migration Calculator

Before initiating migrations for Microsoft 365 or Google workspaces, you can use the pre-migration calculator to estimate migration timelines for Microsoft 365 and Google migrations in Tenant discovery.

To estimate migration timelines, refer to the following steps:

  1. Click Tenant discovery > Microsoft 365 workspace or Google workspace in the left pane.

  2. Click How long will my migration take? in the upper-right corner of the page.

  3. In Step 1. Source, select the Source tenant for your migration.

  4. If you are calculating for a Microsoft 365 migration, select the Continent for your selected source tenant.

  5. *Note: Migration speed may be affected and reduced if the source tenant, destination tenant, and AvePoint Online Services account are located on different continents.

  6. Click Next to go to the Migration scope step.

  7. In Step 2. Migration scope, define the migration scope by the following two different ways:

    • Use the tenant discovery results data – Turn on the toggle next to the workspaces you plan to migrate. The tenant discovery results of your selected workspace will be used directly as the migration scope. For instructions on running a tenant discovery job, refer to Tenant Discovery.

    • *Note: For Microsoft Teams, the total data size may not be accurate, as channel data cannot be retrieved in the tenant discovery job. The discovery result reflects only the size of the team site. Additionally, tenant discovery cannot retrieve the number of messages. Fly will estimate the migration timeline based on an average of 10,000 messages per team.

    • Customize scope – Turn on the toggle next to the workspaces you plan to migrate and configure the number of mappings and the total combined size per workspace.

  8. Click Next to go to the Destination step.

  9. In Step 3. Destination, select the Destination tenant for your migration.

  10. If you are calculating for a Microsoft 365 migration, select the Continent for your selected destination tenant.

  11. Click Next to go to the Subscription information step.

  12. In Step 4. Subscription information, configure the following subscription details for your planned migration. You can refer to the Subscription and Licensing Information to view subscription and licensing information, and estimate the required resources.

    • Subscription purchase source – Select the purchase source for your subscription. Note that if you purchase directly from AvePoint sales, the subscription is available only on an annual basis.

    • Subscription type – Select your subscription type. Note that the concurrency for monthly and annual subscriptions is different.

    • Number of licenses – Select the number of the licenses.

  13. Click Next to go to the Review and calculate step.

  14. In Step 5. Review and calculate, review your migration configurations, and the following actions are available:

    • Configure migration scope – In the Migration scope section, click Add to include a new workspace in the migration scope. To edit or delete an existing workspace, click the action (image31)button next to the workspace, then select Edit or Delete.

    • Configure advanced settings – Click the action (image32)button in the upper-right corner of the page, then click Advanced settings and complete the following configurations:

      • Migration time factor – Enter the migration time factor.

      • The full migration job with larger data workloads requires more processing time, which is affected by the migration time factor. This factor (1-99,999) increases based on the total number of migration objects. The default values are as follows:

        • Time factor is 1.5 for less than 15,000 objects.

        • Time factor is 1.75 for 15,000 to 150,000 objects.

        • Time factor is 2 for more than 150,000 objects.

      • Daily migration hours – Enter the number of hours migration jobs are run each day.

      • Max daily throughput for SharePoint Online (GB) – Enter the maximum daily throughput for SharePoint Online.

For content migration in SharePoint sites (including OneDrive and team sites), higher daily throughput may be blocked by Microsoft 365 or Google throttling policies. Our recommended throughput is 2,000 GB per day, though this may vary depending on your Microsoft 365 tenant.

  15. Once completed, click Calculate. Click Continue in the pop-up window, and then the Calculation results page appears.

View Calculation Results

You can view the estimated migration calculation results on the Calculation results page, which includes the following sections:

- Timeline breakdown – View the timeline breakdown of workspace durations for the migration job. Note that if you purchase an annual order, mailbox and content migration can be performed in parallel, so the longest phase between mailbox and content migration will determine the overall migration timeline. - Workspace overview – View the workload details for each migration workspace. - Calculation details – View a detailed breakdown of the factors affecting the migration calculation process. - > ***Note**: The calculations are estimates only and do not guarantee migration outcomes. Actual results may vary due to external factors such as throttling. While we strive to account for these variables, 100% accuracy cannot be guaranteed.

You can click Download at the bottom of the page to download the calculation results as a PDF file.
