Create a Connection for Microsoft 365 Groups

To connect to Groups to be copied or merged, an available connection is required for the authentication. We recommend you create a connection before using Aviator to avoid any interruption.

Refer to the following steps to add Microsoft 365 Groups connections:

    1. Click Settings in the left pane, and select Connections to access the Connections page.

    2. Click Create connection.

    3. In the Create connection panel, complete the following settings:

      • Connection name – Enter a name for the connection.

      • Connection type – Select Microsoft 365 Groups from the drop-down list to create a connection for Microsoft 365 Groups.

      • Tenant – Select a tenant from/to which you want to migrate Group objects. You can enter the keyword of a tenant in the Search tenant text box and press Enter on the keyboard to search the tenant.

If your desired tenant cannot be found from the drop-down list, you need to connect to the tenant in AvePoint Online Services Tenant management. Refer to for details. Then click the Refresh (Button: Refresh button.) button to reload the tenant.

*Note: If the selected tenant is a multi-geo tenant and you want to use this connection for the Copy Group job, you can define a specific location of the destination tenant to create destination Groups by selecting the Create in the following location of destination multi-geo tenant checkbox and selecting a location from the drop-down list. Refer to Migration to a Destination Multi-Geo Tenant for more information.

      • Container for auto map – Select a container of the tenant selected above to load Groups. You can enter the keyword of a container in the Search container text box and press Enter on the keyboard to search the container. Make sure at least one scan job has been run in AvePoint Online Services and there are objects in the container. If the container still cannot be found in the drop-down list, you can set up a scan profile in AvePoint Online Services to use Auto Discovery to find the objects you want to copy or merge. Refer to for details. Then, click the Refresh (Button: Refresh button.) button to reload the tenant.

      • Credentials – Select the service account authentication or app profile of the tenant selected above to run the migration jobs.

        • Impersonation user – If you select a custom app profile, the impersonation user you configured in AvePoint Online Services will be automatically filled in. You can change the user to a desired user with the Exchange Online product license assigned in Microsoft 365. This user will be used to identify your Microsoft 365 tenant ID. If the user configured in Fly differs from the one in AvePoint Online Services, the migration will use the user configured in Fly.

The service account authentication includes legacy authentication and modern authentication. Legacy authentication does not support service accounts with multi-factor authentication (MFA) enabled. If the account you want to use has MFA enabled, you can select Modern authentication from the Service account authentication drop-down list to use a delegated app profile for authentication.

        • For legacy authentication, select one or multiple service accounts from the drop-down list.

        • For modern authentication, you can select a delegated app profile from the drop-down list to use the delegated app profile to add the connection.

        • *Note: To reduce throttling during migration jobs, we recommend you select multiple delegated app profiles for a connection.

You can enter the keyword of a (delegated) app profile in the Search (delegated) app profile text box and press Enter on the keyboard to search the (delegated) app profile. You can also create a new (delegated) app profile or service account in AvePoint Online Services. Remember to click the Refresh (Button: Refresh button.) button to reload the (delegated) app profile or service account after the creation.

*Note: To reduce throttling during migration, we recommend you use the app profile for the migration. However, some objects are not supported with app profile authentication. To ensure a complete migration, you can use a service account alongside the app profile for unsupported objects.

If the selected tenant has multiple service accounts configured in AvePoint Online Services, you can also select multiple service accounts for the migration. This makes the migration jobs less throttled.

    4. Click Save to save your configurations.

On the Connections page, you can manage the existing connections.

    - Filter – Click **Filter** to filter connections by connection type and/or tenant. - Search – Enter the keyword of a connection name in the search box to search for the desired connection. - Edit – Click the connection name to edit a connection. - Delete – Select one or multiple connections and click **Delete** to delete them.
