Home > User Management > Manage Users
Export to PDFWhen you click a tenant name on the User management page, you switch to the tenant level. Refer to the following sections to find the operations that you can perform to manage users.
On the User management > Users page of a specific tenant, you can find users of different types.
Users – Users within the tenant are displayed, excluding external users, service accounts, guest users, and deleted users.
Guest users – Guest users within the tenant are displayed.
External users – External users within the tenant are displayed.
Service accounts – Service accounts within the tenant are displayed.
All users – All users within the tenant are displayed.
Deleted users – Users that have been deleted are displayed.
In a hybrid tenant, each user list, except for the Guests tab, includes a Source column that explicitly identifies the origin of each user.
Cloud user – Indicates that the user is stored and managed exclusively within Microsoft Entra ID (cloud-only), with no on-premises association.
Local user – Indicates that the user is hosted and managed in an on-premises Active Directory (AD) environment, without synchronization to the cloud.
Hybrid – Indicates that the user is synchronized between an on-premises AD and Microsoft Entra ID. This synchronization is typically managed via directory synchronization tools like Azure AD Connect. During Azure AD Connect setup, administrators can choose which organizational units (OU) to synchronize with the cloud. If a newly created user (local user, external user, service account) resides in an OU designated for synchronization, the user will be classified and managed as a hybrid user.
