Manage Automatic Group/Team Lifecycle Management Tasks

Automatic Group/Team Lifecycle Management tasks include Microsoft 365 Group inactivity threshold tasks and Microsoft 365 Group lease expiration tasks. These tasks will be automatically generated if the following conditions are met:

  • Group/Team inactivity threshold or group/team lease is enabled in a group/team policy.

  • The group/team policy is applied to a group/team.

  • The group/team inactivity threshold is reached or the group/team lease has expired.

As a group contact or team contact, you are responsible for managing the automatically generated group/team inactivity threshold tasks or group/team lease expiration tasks.

To view a task, click a task title. The View Details window appears. You can perform the following actions on the task:

Archive a Microsoft Team

For both team inactivity threshold tasks and team lease expiration tasks, you can request to archive the Microsoft Team. Follow the steps below:

  1. Select a task and click Archive Team on the ribbon.

  2. In the pop-up window, enter comments for this task for further reference.

  3. Click OK to confirm this action or click Cancel to return to the All Tasks interface without executing the task.

Delete a Microsoft 365 Group or Microsoft Team

For both group/team inactivity threshold task and group/team lease expiration task, you can request to delete the Microsoft 365 Group or Microsoft Team. Follow the steps below:

  1. Select a task and click Delete on the ribbon.

  2. In the pop-up window, enter some comments for this task for further reference.

  3. Click OK to confirm this action or click Cancel to return to the All Tasks interface without executing the task.

Continue Microsoft 365 Group/Microsoft Team and Group Team Site Access

For a group/team inactivity threshold task, you can continue allowing access to the Microsoft 365 Group/Microsoft Team and the corresponding group team site. To request continued access, follow the steps below:

  1. Select a task and click Continue Access on the ribbon.

  2. In the pop-up window, click OK to confirm this action, or click Cancel to return to the All Tasks interface without executing the task.

Extend a Microsoft 365 Group or Microsoft Team Lease

For a group/team lease expiration task, you can extend the lease of the Microsoft 365 Group or Microsoft Team. To request a lease extension, follow the steps below:

  1. Select a task and click Extend on the ribbon. A pop-up window appears.

  2. The extended group/team lease period is displayed if your IT Admin has configured it. If allowed, you can define the extended group/team lease period.

  3. Enter some comments for this task for further reference.

  4. Click OK to confirm this action or click Cancel to return to the All Tasks interface without executing the task.
