Manage Microsoft 365 Group or Microsoft Team Membership Recertification Tasks

When your administrator enables membership recertification for your Microsoft 365 Group or Microsoft Team and selects you as the assignee, a membership recertification task will be generated and assigned to you. This task contains the searched members and/or owners of the group/team. You can add members and/or owners to the group/team, remove members and/or owners from the group/team, promote members to owners, or demote owners to members. The membership changes will be updated to Microsoft 365.

    1. On the Home page, navigate to the Confirmations section in your To-do list. The membership recertification tasks that need your review are displayed. You can filter the tasks by Due date or Created date. Locate a group/team membership recertification task and click the view button to view details in a panel.

    2. Click Certify on the ribbon. The owners and/or members of the group or team are displayed. Review the owners and/or members. If necessary, you can perform the following actions:

      • Add owner – Click Add owner. In the panel, add one or more users and click Add.

      • Add member – Click Add member. In the panel, add one or more users and click Add.

      • Remove – Removes an owner or member from the group or team. Select a user and click Remove on the ribbon.

      • Demote to member – Demotes an owner to a member. Select an owner and click Demote to member on the ribbon.

      • Promote to owner – Promotes a member to an owner. Select a member and click Promote toowner on the ribbon.

If you want to reset the changes, click Reset on the ribbon to select Reset my changes or Reset all changes.

      • Reset my changes – Any changes you've made to this task will be cleared. The task will be reset to the state when it is assigned to you.

      • Reset all changes – Any previous changes that have been made to this task will be cleared. The task will be reset to its initial state when it was originally generated.

    3. When you finish, you can choose from the following actions:

      • Click Submit to submit your changes.

      • Click Reject to finish the task without making any changes.

      • Click Reassign to reassign the task to another approver if your administrator allows you to do so.
