Restore Instance

    To restore an Amazon EC2 instance, follow the steps below:

    Go to the Restore page, and click the Virtual Machine tile.

    In the Restore wizard, a calendar displays all the data recovery points. Click Amazon EC2.

    You can choose whether to display the finished with the exception jobs in the calendar by selecting the **Include jobs with only partial backup data** option.

    Hover over the data recovery point to view the job details, including the job status, job start time, scope name, scope ID, job ID, backup size, and the number of objects in a backup.

    Click the data recovery point in the calendar. The instances backed up in the selected backup job are displayed in the table.

    You can use the Account ID filter to find the instances of specific AWS account or use the Search box to search for instance via keywords in the instance name or ID. You can also manage the columns to adjust the view of instances.

    Select the instance that you want to restore and click Restore.

    In the Restore Options step, select where you would like to restore the instance data, choose a mode you want to use to run the restore job, and provide an optional description for further reference. If the instance was in a load balancer, you can also choose whether to add the restored instance to the load balancer. If you choose to use the CAP Gateway mode, select a gateway from the drop-down list.

    ![Step 1: Restore options.](/en/iaas-paas/restore-and-recover-your-data/amazon-ec2/images/image76.png "Step 1: Restore options.") - **Restore the data to the original location** – The instance will be restored to its original location, and you must note that the instance in the original location will be overwritten, and the instance will be stopped (terminated) if it is running. The instance being terminated will remain visible for a short while before being deleted. The state shows as **terminated**. After the instance has been restored, you can use the original password to access the instance via RDP client. If you forgot your password, you can reset the password by referring to this Amazon’s article: . - If the original AMI of the instance has been deleted or disabled, you can select a new AMI. - **Restore** **the data to a new location, or with different settings** – Follow the steps below to choose a destination account and configure the restore settings. > ***Note**: The IAM role of an instance cannot be restored to a new location. - **Location** – In the **Location** step, select a destination account for the instance being restored. You can choose to restore this instance to the same account when it is being backed up or select another account, and then select a region as well. > ***Note**: If you have a new account for this instance to restore, you must connect the account first through AvePoint Online Services > Tenant management. For details, refer to . - **Instance** – Configure the properties for the destination instance, including the instance name, instance type, and key pair. If you select a new region in the **Location** step, you can also configure AMI for the destination instance. - **Network** – Select the VPC or a subnet to add the instance to, and then select a security group to control the network traffic for the instance.

    Click Next to continue.

    Review the restore settings in the Overview step.

    1. Click Restore to perform the restore job.
