    Configure Dynamic Metadata Profiles

    Dynamic metadata profiles allow you to predefine associations between multiple metadata based on their organization policy. These pre-defined metadata branches are then used by the Change metadata service, enabling business users to select appropriate values and maintain consistency across different workflows.

    Dynamic metadata profiles can be applied to the following object types requiring metadata management: site collections, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft 365 Groups, distribution groups, mail-enabled security groups, security groups, shared mailboxes, Viva Engage communities, room mailboxes, equipment boxes, guest users, Microsoft 365 users, Power Apps, Power Automate flows, Power Bi workspaces, and environments.

    To access Dynamic metadata profiles, click the Dynamic metadata profiles card on the Profiles & templates page.

    To create a dynamic metadata profile, click Create on the ribbon to open the Create dynamic metadata profile panel and configure the following settings:

    1. Profile name – Enter a name for the dynamic metadata profile.

    2. Description – Enter a description for the dynamic metadata profile.

    3. Configure dynamic metadata – Add metadata and configure the conditions or branches for metadata. Click Configure metadata, select a metadata to add, then complete the following settings:

      • Click the edit button of the selected metadata to modify the metadata settings. For details on how to configure metadata settings, refer to Configure Metadata.

      • Choose whether to use this metadata exclusively as service metadata and do not apply it to objects.

      • Click New step, you can configure the following for the metadata:

        • Add conditions, switches or endpoints for metadata branches. For details on how to configure conditions, switches, or switches as controls, refer to Use Controls.

        • Configure custom conditions available to be added in Control (condition or switch) branches to be executed via your published web API. For details on how to configure custom conditions, refer to Use Custom Conditions.

        • Add a custom message that will be displayed to the business users. For details on how to configure a custom message to business users, refer to Use Notes to Requestor.

    4. Click Save when you finish all your configurations.
