#Configure Custom Metadata for Search

AvePoint Opus allows you to index up to 10 SharePoint Online columns. These indexed columns can be mapped to custom search fields on the Opus interface, allowing users to refine their searches using the associated metadata. Considering the limit of 10 columns, please prioritize the metadata most critical to your business.

Refer to the following steps to configure custom metadata for search:

1. Click the More () button and select Custom metadata for search.

2. Turn on the Sync metadata for search toggle to activate the feature.

3. Add custom columns for search.

   1. Under the Column name in Search row, click Add column. The Add column panel appears.

   2. Click Add column.

   3. Enter a column name and select a column type. Multiple column types are supported: Text, Yes/No, Date and Time, and Number.

   4. Turn on the Sort toggle if you want users to sort search results by this column.

   5. Repeat the steps above to add up to 10 custom columns.

   6. Click Save to save the configurations.

4. Add column mappings to map SharePoint columns to your custom columns.

   1. Enter the internal name or display name of a SharePoint column and select the custom column it should map to.

   2. Repeat the step above to add up to 10 column mappings.

5. Click Save to save the configurations.
