How to Export Archived Data from Archival Storages

AvePoint Opus provides a standalone tool to help export your archived data of SharePoint Online, OneDrive, and Teams & Groups from archival storages and decrypt the exported data into a readable format.

You might need this tool in the following circumstances:

- You want to export your legacy archived data as the data comes to the end of the retention period. - You plan to end your subscription for AvePoint Opus and remove your archived data.

Prerequisites for using this standalone tool:

- A standalone tool package: **ExportArchivedData.zip**. - The archive index file and encryption key. > ***Note**: The **Export archive index** functionality is disabled by default. If you want to use it, you need to contact AvePoint Support to enable it in the backend.

Note the following:

- The archived data is stored in the following supported storage types: Amazon S3, Amazon S3-Compatible Storage, Dropbox, FTP, Microsoft Azure Blob storage, SFTP, and Google Cloud Storage. - The user who wants to export the archived data must have appropriate access permissions for both the source archive storage and the destination location.

Export Archive Index

Refer to the following steps to export the archive index file and copy the encryption key:

  1. Go to the AvePoint Opus interface.

  2. Navigate to Settings > Global storage settings.

  3. Click Export archive index and click OK in the confirmation message.

  4. Copy the encryption key. The encryption key will be used to convert the encrypted archived data to readable content.

Use the Standalone Tool

Refer to the following steps to use the standalone tool to export and decrypt the archived data:

  1. Click this link to download the ExportArchivedData.zip file.

  2. Copy the ExportArchivedData.zip file to a server with a network connection.

  3. Extract the ExportArchivedData.zip file to find the StandaloneTool.exe file.

  4. Double-click the StandaloneTool.exe file. The AvePoint Opus Standalone Tool window appears.

  5. Click Decrypt and export archived data.

  6. In the Import encryption key step, complete the following information:

    • Data type – Select SharePoint Online or OneDrive.

    • Index file – Click Browse to browse the index file you have exported from the Opus interface.

    • Encryption key – Enter the encryption key you have copied from the Opus interface.

  7. Click Next.

  8. In the Select data to export step, select site collections. You can perform a search to quickly find the desired site collections.

  9. Click Next.

  10. If the archived data is stored in the AvePoint storage, the Export data from AvePoint storage step will appear.

    You need to submit a request to AvePoint to export the data to your own storage first, and then enter the storage information below:

    • Storage typeMicrosoft Azure Blob Storage is automatically filled in and cannot be updated.

    • Access point – Enter the URL for the Blob Storage Service.

    • Container name – Enter the container name you wish to access.

    • Account name – Enter the corresponding account key to access the specified container.

    • Account key – Enter the corresponding account key to access the specified container.

  11. In the Select export location step, select a location. So far, this tool has supported the following location types:

    If you select Local location, enter the location path.

    If you select Microsoft Azure Blob Storage, complete the following storage information:

    • Access point – Enter the URL for the Blob Storage Service.

    • Container name – Enter the container name you wish to access.

    • Account name – Enter the corresponding account key to access the specified container.

    • Account key – Enter the corresponding account key to access the specified container.

    If you select SFTP, complete the following storage information:

    • Host – Enter the IP address or host name of the SFTP server.

    • Port – Enter the port of the SFTP server.

    • Root folder – Enter the root folder where exported data will be stored on the SFTP server.

      *Note: The password is the highest priority. If the password is not provided, the tool will check the private key and private key password.

    • Username – Enter the username of the account that can use SFTP.

    • Password – Enter the corresponding password of the user used to access the root folder.

    • Private key file – If the SFTP server supports the private key file, click Browse to upload a private key file.

    • Private key password – Enter the corresponding password of the uploaded private key file.

  12. Click Export and click Yes in the confirmation message.

  13. In the Export data step, you can find the progress.

  14. When it completes, the Complete window will appear. You can export the report for details.
