AvePoint Cloud Backup for Microsoft 365 November 2022

Release Date for the Commercial Environment: November 6, 2022

Release Date for the US Government Environment: November 20, 2022

General Updates

  • To protect Teams chats, you must now configure a custom app profile with access to the Export API. The Teams Chat service will use the Export API Model B by default. If you want to use Model A, contact AvePoint Support for assistance.

  • Backup of OneDrive for Business now uses Microsoft Graph API for improved performance. If you use the default app profile, you must re-authorize the app through AvePoint Online Services App Management. If you use a custom app, you need to manually update your app permissions. Graph API has been more focused on protecting OneDrive content and it has some limitations, for example, it cannot protect file versions. You can refer to the data support list in the user guide for more details. If you require any additional assistance, contact AvePoint Support.

  • If a Teams incremental backup job has been running for 2 days and the backup for the team’s metadata and mailboxes has been completed, the Teams team site and the private/shared channel sites that are still running for backup will be split up and continue to run in the backend.

  • When performing a document-level restore, the version settings are no longer available in the restore settings. The restore job will restore the selected document versions.

  • The hidden lists in SharePoint sites (including SharePoint Online sites, Teams team sites, Group team sites, Yammer community sites, and Project Online sites) are now excluded from the backup scope for better performance. If you want to include the hidden lists in your backup, contact AvePoint support for assistance.

  • The hidden folders in the mailboxes (including Exchange Online mailboxes, Group mailboxes, and Teams group mailboxes) will be excluded from the backup for better performance. If you want to include the hidden folders in your backup, contact AvePoint support for assistance.

  • Cloud Backup for Microsoft 365 has upgraded the user experience with new designs and enhanced features. The new experience is currently a Preview version.

  • The Power BI service is now available in the new Cloud Backup for Microsoft 365 interface. You can export the backup of the Power BI reports to your local computer.

  • In the new Cloud Backup for Microsoft 365 interface, the information on the Backup page is automatically refreshed every ten minutes or each time you go back to the Backup page. You can also click the Refresh button on the upper-right corner of the Backup page to retrieve the latest backup information for your backup services.

  • In the new Cloud Backup for Microsoft 365 interface, the feature to append new storage is only available to customers who have appended storage before. Some backup settings that are less frequently used are removed from the new user experience. You can go to the legacy UI to configure these settings.

  • In the new Cloud Backup for Microsoft 365 interface, you can now choose to protect shared channels for Teams. This feature is currently in preview.

  • In the new Cloud Backup for Microsoft 365 interface, the job details pane will display the top 5 errors in the job report.

  • In the new interface, the Invite support and the Submit feedback features are displayed in the Help list, and you will be redirected to AvePoint Online Services to submit the contact support request and feedback.

  • In the new Cloud Backup for Microsoft 365 interface, you can now configure the IBM Spectrum Protect -S3 storage or IBM Cloud Object Storage to store your backup data.
