Configure Microsoft 365 Data

If your organization uses Cloud Backup for Microsoft 365, Cloud Archiving, or AvePoint Opus, before users can access the ReCenter portal with their Microsoft 365 accounts, the following configurations need to be completed by the organization’s administrators:

  1. If this is the first time that you are signing in to AvePoint Online Services or ReCenter with your Microsoft 365 account and the permissions requested by the AvePoint Online Services app are displayed, to consent to this app for all users in your organization, select the Consent on behalf of your organization checkbox and click Accept.

After you consent to this app on behalf of your organization, the requested permissions will no longer be displayed when your organization’s users sign in to AvePoint Online Services or ReCenter.

*Note: If your Microsoft 365 tenant does not allow users to consent to apps on their behalf and the Microsoft 365 Global Administrator hasn’t consented the AvePoint Online Services app on behalf of your organization, the Microsoft 365 Global Administrator can consent to the app by following the steps in the section in the AvePoint Online Services user guide.

  2. If you want to set trusted IP addresses to only allow users to access ReCenter from certain IP addresses or IP address ranges, go to AvePoint Online Services and navigate to Administration > Security to configure the Trusted IP address settings. For details, refer to the section in the AvePoint Online Services user guide.

  3. To manage users’ access to ReCenter, in AvePoint Online Services > Management > User management, add Microsoft 365 users or Microsoft 365 Groups, assign them at least the Standard user permission to the ReCenter (for Microsoft 365) portal, and ensure they are in the Activated status. For details about managing users, refer to the section in the AvePoint Online Services user guide.

    Note the following:

    • Ensure your organization has accepted the subscription agreement of the Cloud Backup for Microsoft 365 / Cloud Archiving / AvePoint Opus service.

    • Users can access ReCenter with their Microsoft 365 accounts only when the sign-in method for their accounts is Microsoft 365 user/group in AvePoint Online Services (AOS). If a Microsoft 365 account has been added to AOS as a Service Administrator but the sign-in method for this Microsoft 365 account is Local user, to grant this user access to ReCenter, another AOS user with the Tenant Owner or Service Administrator role must first remove this user from AOS and then add this user back to AOS with the Microsoft 365 user/group sign-in method.

    • If you want to grant permissions to a large number of users, it is recommended to grant permissions to Microsoft 365 Groups instead of Microsoft 365 users.

  4. Ensure your organization’s Microsoft 365 data has been protected in Cloud Backup for Microsoft 365, or the administrator of Cloud Archiving / AvePoint Opus has configured stubs for the archived objects.

*Note: The administrator of Cloud Archiving / AvePoint Opus / Cloud Backup for Microsoft 365 can configure whether to allow end-users to restore data from the archive tier. If the option is disabled, the end-users will not be able to restore data from the archive tier.

  5. The ReCenter portal is an application that can be added as a custom tile in the Microsoft 365 app launcher. For details, refer to Add a Custom Tile of the ReCenter Portal to the App Launcher.

  6. Administrators can manage users’ permissions in ReCenter by configuring the settings below. Once configured, end-users can search across all files based on their roles and then take actions on them in ReCenter, regardless of their individual permissions for files in Microsoft 365.

    • In Cloud Archiving, administrators can navigate to End-user Restore Settings and configure the permission settings to control whether end-users are allowed to recover archived data.

    • In AvePoint Opus, administrators can navigate to Settings > Restore Settings and configure the permission settings to control whether end-users are allowed to recover archived data.

    • In Cloud Backup for Microsoft 365, administrators can navigate to Settings > End-user restore and configure the permission settings to control whether end-users are allowed to recover backup data.

  7. Administrators can navigate to AvePoint Online Services > Administration > General settings to change the logo displayed in the ReCenter portal and configure terminology mappings to map the default terms to the custom terms for ReCenter. For details, refer to Change the Logo of the ReCenter Portal and Configure Terminology Mappings for ReCenter.
