    Configure Information Rights Management Settings

    To configure Information Rights Management Settings, navigate to Default Copy Settings/Default Move Settings/Plan Builder > Information Rights Management Settings.

    If the Information Rights Management Settings are enabled in SharePoint Online and the Enable file decryption checkbox is:

    - Selected, then the IRM-protected files will be decrypted when they are downloaded as part of the backup. - Deselected, then the content you backed up will remain encrypted, and the restored data can only be accessed by the service accounts.

    The Disable Information Rights Management (IRM) Settings checkbox will only appear when editing a plan that meets both of the following conditions:

    - The plan was created before November 19th, 2017. - The **Disable** **Information Rights Management (IRM) Settings** checkbox is selected in the plan.

    *Note: The Disable Information Rights Management (IRM) Settings checkbox will not appear the next time if you select the Enable file decryption checkbox and save the plan. The next backup job of this plan will decrypt files.

    *Note: Deselect the Disable Information Rights Management (IRM) Settings checkbox if you want to enable file decryption. Deselect the Enable file decryption checkbox if you want to select the Disable Information Rights Management (IRM) Settings checkbox.

    If the Disable Information Rights Management (IRM) Settings checkbox is selected, then IRM Settings will be temporarily disabled on the individual list/library while it is being backed up and re-enabled once the backup for this list/library is complete.

    If the Disable Information Rights Management (IRM) Settings checkbox is deselected, then the content you backed up will remain encrypted, and the restored data can only be accessed by the service accounts.
