Filters

A filter allows you to specify criteria with which to identify the specific objects to assign a policy or rule. Note that filters are only available for service-level policies and rules.

To create a filter, complete the following steps:

    1. Click Settings > Filter on the left pane to enter the Filter page.

    2. Click Create Filter. The Create filter page appears.

    3. General information – Complete general information as below:

      • Object type – Select an object type for the filter.

        • SharePoint site – Create a filter of this type to filter SharePoint and OneDrive sites.

        • Microsoft 365 Group – Create a filter of this type to filter Microsoft 365 Groups and Microsoft Teams, including group team sites.

        • Microsoft 365 user – Create a filter of this type to filter Microsoft 365 users.

      • Name – If you want to reuse conditions of an existing filter, you can select Copy from an existing filter to create a new filter by copying from an existing filter. Select a filter that you want to copy from. A suffix - Copy is added to the filter name and you can modify it.

Alternatively, you can select Create a new filter to create a filter from scratch. Enter a filter name.

      • Description – Enter an optional filter description for future reference.

    4. Filter conditions – Configure a filter condition and click the Add button to add it. For detailed filter criteria, refer to Supported Filter Criteria.

After adding a filter condition, you can click the Edit button to reset the filter condition, or click the Delete button to delete the filter condition if it is no longer needed.

When multiple filter conditions are added, their logical relationship is as below:

      • For filter conditions of the same type, you need to select And or Or to define their logical relationship.

        • And requires that all filter conditions must be met.

        • Or requires that any of the filter conditions must be met.

      • For filter conditions of different types, their logical relationship is always And, and cannot be changed. Only the objects that meet all different types of filter conditions will be filtered.

    5. Click Create to create the filter, or you can click Cancel to cancel without saving any changes.
