Recover OneDrive Archived/Backup Data from ReCenter

Refer to the following sections to recover OneDrive data using ReCenter based on the product used to back up or archive your data.

Cloud Backup for Microsoft 365

Follow the steps below to restore or export OneDrive backup data in the ReCenter portal from Cloud Backup for Microsoft 365.

  1. Administrator Setup

    • Verify subscription and configure user access

      • Ensure your organization has a valid subscription to Cloud Backup for Microsoft 365. To get started with Cloud Backup for Microsoft 365, refer to Get Started.

      • To manage users’ access to ReCenter, in AvePoint Online Services > Management > User management, add Microsoft 365 users or Microsoft 365 Groups, assign them at least the Standard user permission to the ReCenter (for Microsoft 365) portal, and ensure they are in the Activated status. For details about user management, refer to Manage Users.

        NOTE

        Users can access ReCenter with their Microsoft 365 accounts only when their sign-in method for their accounts is Microsoft 365 user/group in AvePoint Online Services (AOS). If a Microsoft 365 account was added to AOS as a Service Administrator but uses the Local user sign-in method, another AOS user with the Tenant Owner or Service Administrator role must remove the user and then add them again using the Microsoft 365 user/group sign-in method.

    • The following configurations are available for ReCenter:

    • To configure end-user restore permissions, administrators can navigate to Settings > End-user restore in Cloud Backup for Microsoft 365. The following configurations are available:

      • Allow OneDrive owners to preview, restore, or export OneDrive backup data from ReCenter.

      • Allow ReCenter users to restore archived data stored on the Archive tier.

      • Allow ReCenter users to recover sharing links.

      • Allow managers to restore employee OneDrive data in ReCenter.

      • Allow ReCenter users to generate a public link when previewing a file.

  2. Access ReCenter

    You can access the ReCenter portal either through the AvePoint Online Services environment or through the Microsoft 365 app launcher, if a custom ReCenter tile has been configured by your administrator. For details, refer to Use ReCenter for Microsoft 365.

  3. End User Recovery

    In the ReCenter portal, end users can recover OneDrive backup data at both the folder level and the document level. You can either restore data to their original locations, or export and download them to a local path. For details, refer to Recover Backup OneDrive Data from Cloud Backup for Microsoft 365.

  4. Job Details and Data Download

    End users can view job details and download exported data in ReCenter > Request history. For details, refer to View Request History and Download Exported Data.

AvePoint Opus

Follow the steps below to restore or export OneDrive archived data from AvePoint Opus through stubs.

  1. Administrator Setup

    • Verify subscription and configure user access

      • Ensure your organization has a valid subscription to AvePoint Opus. To get started with AvePoint Opus, refer to Get Started.

      • To manage users’ access to ReCenter, in AvePoint Online Services > Management > User management, add Microsoft 365 users or Microsoft 365 Groups, assign them at least the Standard user permission to the ReCenter (for Microsoft 365) portal, and ensure they are in the Activated status. For details about user management, refer to Manage Users.

        NOTE

        Users can access ReCenter with their Microsoft 365 accounts only when their sign-in method for their accounts is Microsoft 365 user/group in AvePoint Online Services (AOS). If a Microsoft 365 account was added to AOS as a Service Administrator but uses the Local user sign-in method, another AOS user with the Tenant Owner or Service Administrator role must remove the user and then add them again using the Microsoft 365 user/group sign-in method.

      • Change the logo displayed in the ReCenter portal. For details, refer to Change the Logo of the ReCenter Portal.

      • Configure terminology mappings to map the default terms to the custom terms for ReCenter. For details, refer to Configure Terminology Mappings for ReCenter.

    • Configure end-user restore permissions

      In AvePoint Opus, administrators can navigate to Settings > Restore Settings to control whether to allow stub viewers to restore and export data through stubs. Additionally, administrators can also configure whether to allow end users to recover sharing links and to restore archived data through stubs to another location. For details, refer to Manage Restore Settings.

  2. End User Recovery

    To restore an archived file from a stub, navigate to your OneDrive and click the stub file. For details, refer to Recover Archived OneDrive Data from AvePoint Opus.

  3. Job Details and Data Download

    End users can view job details and download exported data in ReCenter > Request history. For details, refer to View Request History and Download Exported Data.
