Set Microsoft Foundry Budget

The Microsoft Foundry budget and cost management feature provides an agent-centric budgeting and monitoring layer on top of Azure subscriptions, enabling you to distinguish AI agent costs from overall Azure spending and control them independently.

NOTE
  • To access the Microsoft Foundry budget page and manage the budgets, users need to have the Manage Microsoft Foundry budgets permission assigned in User management > Permissions.
  • To manage subscription budgets and relevant agent budgets, make sure the Cense Microsoft Foundry app has been added to the subscription in Azure portal and has the required roles assigned. For more details, refer to Assign Required Roles to AvePoint Cense Foundry App.

Click Microsoft Foundry budget in the left navigation to go to the Microsoft Foundry budget page, where manageable subscriptions are grouped and listed by tenant.

In this module, you can:

  1. Define subscription's yearly budgets - The subscription budget acts as the primary budget boundary.

  2. Set up agent monthly budget - Once the subscription budget is configured, you can set a monthly budget for each agent within the subscription.

After the budgets are configured, you can go to Microsoft Foundry report to track the detailed budget usage.

Set Up Subscription Budget

Subscription budget is the spending limit for an entire Azure subscription. In Cense, you can define the total costs of agents, infrastructure, and other resources in a year.

To set up the budget of a subscription, complete the following steps:

  1. Under a tenant, locate the subscription whose budget you want to manage.

  2. Hover your mouse over the subscription. An action list icon will appear.

  3. Click the action list icon and then select Set subscription budget.

  4. In the Set subscription budget window, enter the total budget of this subscription in the current year.

To configure budgets for future years, click Add year. You can configure budgets for up to three years.

  5. Click Save to complete the setup.

Set Up Agent Budget

Agent budgets are used to monitor the monthly cost of individual AI agents based on their model (token) usage within an Azure subscription.

To set up an agent budget, complete the following steps:

  1. Under a tenant, locate the subscription whose budget you want to manage.

  2. Hover your mouse over the subscription. An action list icon will appear.

  3. Click the action list icon and then select Set agent budget.

  4. On the agent budget setup page, all agents under this subscription are listed along with the agent model used and budget configured.

  5. To set up an agent budget:

    • If no budget is configured for the agent, click the Month-specific budget link in the yearly budget column.

    • If a budget is already configured for the agent, hover over the agent entry and click the Set agent budget icon. You will be taken to the agent budget details page. Click Edit in the lower-right corner.

  6. On the budget editing page, select how you want to configure the budget for the agent in the Budget type field.

    • Same budget for all months - Select this option to apply the same budget to every month of the year.

    • Different budget for each month - Select this option to configure a different budget for each month of the year.

  7. Click Save to complete the setup.
