Microsoft 365 throttling enforcement

Status: Platform enforcement update Products affected: Cloud Backup for Microsoft 365, Fly, Opus (and other Confidence Platform workloads)

Summary

Microsoft has begun more consistently enforcing its existing Microsoft 365 throttling guidance. This is an enforcement update, not a policy change, and reinforces long-standing expectations for how applications interact with Microsoft 365 APIs.

What's changing

Microsoft is tightening enforcement against unsupported patterns that attempt to bypass API throttling limits

Applications are expected to use:

One app registration per workload

Clearly scoped and identifiable app identities

These expectations have been part of Microsoft's guidance for years and are now being applied more consistently

Customer impact

Customers using AvePoint's recommended configurations should not expect disruption

AvePoint workloads are already designed to align with Microsoft's throttling guidance

Unsupported configurations that rely on pooled or duplicated app registrations may be impacted
